All you knew
was a land of sea
a cocoon
a shell
all you knew
was growing
stretching round
competing with intestines
bladder
spleen
ribs
you took over my body
the day you left
they cut me open
there is a small red mark
where the knife came to free you
there’s no such thing as heaven
no garden of milk and honey
no men with flowing beards
instead—like a rubber band
you surface in the gloaming
swell that last bit of sun
before it snaps into night
thank you for your courage in sharing this
Pain shared is pain lessened. It never goes away, but there is healing. Even in our darkest moments we are not alone. Thank you for sharing of yourself.
How beautiful and sad, Gabriella.
